Embraer Praetor 600: specifications and range

The Praetor 600 carries 7,441 kilometres without a stop — at the time of its launch that was the longest-legged aircraft in the super-midsize class in the world. The range came out of reworking the Legacy 500 airframe: additional fuel tanks, new winglets, more powerful engines. Here are the book figures, how they behave on a real leg, and what a cabin 1.83 metres high with a flat floor gives you.

Principal specifications

Manufacturer's data and the type catalogue. The figures for a particular aircraft come from its flight manual: specification and modifications change the weights, and with them the range.

Full specifications and sourcing are on the model page.

Range: what 4,018 miles mean

The book figure is calculated with four passengers, full fuel and the standard NBAA reserve. Factory material breaks it down into routes: London — New York, São Paulo — Miami, Dubai — London without a stop.

In service a leg longer than 85 per cent of book range is planned with a technical stop or with a reduced load. For the Praetor 600 that is about 6,300 kilometres. At 863 km/h the limiting leg takes some eight and a half hours in the air.

What cuts the figure down: a cabin loaded above the notional payload, a headwind on the route, high temperature and elevation at the departure aerodrome, limitations on the alternate. The runway required at maximum weight and the landing distance at a typical weight come from the flight manual of the particular aircraft: both change with weight, temperature and aerodrome elevation, and on a short runway they are checked before the route goes into the plan.

The cabin

A height of 1.83 metres with a flat floor is the figure that decides more in the super-midsize class than the range does. A person of about 180 cm walks the cabin without stooping and steps over no central tunnel.

Layouts run from eight seats (two club fours) to twelve with a divan. The galley is forward, the lavatory aft. Options include a head-up display with an enhanced vision system, Viasat Ka-band satellite connectivity, interior packages.

Cabin pressure at cruise level corresponds to an altitude of 5,800 feet, about 1,770 metres. On an eight-hour leg the difference from the usual figures for the class shows by landing: less fatigue, less dryness.

Fly-by-wire and active turbulence protection

The whole EMB-550 platform is built around fully digital controls. Active turbulence protection works a disturbance out before it reaches the cabin; on Atlantic routes in the winter season that is a noticeable part of the comfort.

Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics come as standard. The fit of the particular aircraft is checked against its documents: communication and surveillance requirements differ between airspaces, and retrofitting costs money and weeks on the ground.

Where it sits in the Embraer line

Type Range Passengers Price benchmark
Embraer Legacy 500 5,788 km up to 12 median about $14.4 million
Embraer Praetor 500 6,190 km up to 9 median about $18.0 million
Embraer Praetor 600 7,441 km up to 12 median about $24.0 million

Benchmarks as of August 2026, to my information.

The Legacy 500 is the original aircraft of the platform, production closed in 2019. The Praetor 500 is the midsize aircraft of the same line. Owners of a Legacy 500 have a factory programme available that brings it up to the full Praetor 600 standard: tanks, winglets, systems.

That upgrade creates a story of its own on the pre-owned market. An aircraft presented as a Praetor 600 may turn out to be an upgraded Legacy 500, or a Legacy 500 without the upgrade and with a promise to carry it out. It is verified from the logbook and from the paperwork on the work performed.

Neighbours in the class

Type Range Passengers
Embraer Praetor 600 7,441 km up to 12
Gulfstream G280 6,667 km up to 10
Cessna Citation Longitude 6,482 km up to 12
Bombardier Challenger 3500 6,300 km up to 10
Bombardier Challenger 350 5,926 km up to 10

The Praetor 600's margin over its nearest neighbour is 774 kilometres, over the Challenger 350 it is fifteen hundred. On routes of up to six hours that margin stays unused, and other parameters come forward: the Challenger 350 and the Citation Longitude are compared on cabin and on depth of market.

What the aircraft and the hour cost

Asking prices on the pre-owned market hold to a corridor of $20.0–29.5 million with a median of about $24.0 million, to my information. As of August 2026, 12 aircraft were found openly for sale — some 7 to 8 per cent of the fleet by the Guardian Jet summary. The spread in how much the aircraft have flown runs from 80 to 3,179 hours.

Operating costs by the catalogue figures: fixed costs about $948,470 a year, variable about $4,029 an hour. At 100 hours a year the full cost of an hour comes to about $13,500, at 300 hours to about $7,200. At a hundred hours the market charter rate for the type stays one and a half to two times below your own hour and comes close to it nearer three hundred. The arithmetic line by line is in the article on operating a private aircraft.

What to look at on the particular aircraft

The type by the logbook: a factory-built Praetor 600 or an upgraded Legacy 500. Hours and cycles on the airframe and on each engine as separate figures. Time remaining to the next removal on the HTF7500E and the standing of the hourly-payment programme. Calendar checks completed and the next one due. The avionics fit and its approvals for the airspaces the aircraft will fly through. The year of the last cabin refurbishment.

Every item turns into money: either a discount off the price or a line in the first-year budget of ownership. Matching the class of aircraft to the task is covered in the article on business jet categories.

Conclusion

The Praetor 600 holds its place with a range of 7,441 kilometres, a cabin 1.83 metres high with a flat floor, and digital controls with active turbulence protection. The task that suits this aircraft is regular transatlantic legs with a small group.

The figures in this article are the type's book data and market benchmarks, to my information. The specifics are calculated from the documents of the particular aircraft.
