What sets the Falcon 7X apart: three engines, 11,019 km of range, London City access and an average price near $27M. Compared with Global 6000, G550 and Falcon 8X.

Dassault Falcon 7X: how it differs from its competitors

The average used Falcon 7X in August 2026 runs near $27M, the Global 6000 medians at $27.5M, and a used Falcon 8X averages around $39.4M, to my information. Different engineering meets on one budget: three engines at Dassault against two at Bombardier and Gulfstream, fly-by-wire against conventional controls, city airfields against speed. Here is where the 7X takes its own and what the owner pays for it.

Prices are market benchmarks for August 2026, to my information. The top of the 7X corridor is the rare case of a young aircraft in a rich configuration.

Three engines against two

This is the main structural difference between the 7X and the Global 6000 or G550. Three PW307A sit where those two make do with a pair. Inside the Dassault family the layout is the same: the Falcon 8X is also a trijet, on PW307D.

What it gives in the air. Losing one engine costs a third of thrust; on a twin the same event costs half. In practice that means a higher drift-down altitude and softer takeoff limits in heat and at altitude.

What it does not give. Diversion time limits apply to commercial operations. Business flights under Part 91 cross oceans on two engines. The third engine adds margin in an engine-out case; it does not widen route access.

What it costs. Engine work is counted across three units: three work plans, three sets of time remaining, three lines in the first-year budget and three hourly-programme enrolments. On the Global 6000 and G550 there are two of each, and the engine is the same family — Rolls-Royce BR710.

Speed: 850 against 902–904 km/h

Here the 7X loses to both neighbours. Over a 10,000 km leg the Global 6000 and the G550 arrive some forty minutes earlier; at two long legs a week that adds up to over seventy hours a year. The Falcon 8X cruises at the same 850 km/h, so there is no time gain inside the family.

Range

11,019 km for the 7X and 11,112 km for the Global 6000 are the same order of magnitude. The G550 carries 1,481 km further, the Falcon 8X 926 km.

Book range is calculated at a design payload with NBAA reserves. A leg longer than 85 per cent of book range is planned with a fuel stop or with reduced payload: for the 7X and the Global 6000 that line falls near 9,400 km, for the 8X near 10,150 km, for the G550 near 10,600 km.

The routes the 7X was sold on — New York — Jeddah and Paris — Tokyo — sit in the upper part of the envelope and are planned with an eye on wind and payload.

City airfields: what Bombardier and Gulfstream do not have

The Falcon 7X is certified for London City, a short runway inside the city with a steep approach, closed to most aircraft of this class. Three engines and the Dassault wing give short-field performance, and fly-by-wire gives a precise steep approach. Inside the family the 8X does the same.

For the record: on 2 May 2014 a 7X flew Teterboro to London City in 5 hours 54 minutes.

The benefit is counted on the ground: London City to Canary Wharf is about 15 minutes by car. For an owner with regular London arrivals that saves more than the forty-minute speed difference.

Required runway length for the 7X is not in my sources; figures for a particular aircraft come from its flight manual.

Cabin and passengers

The 7X cabin splits into three zones: club, a four-seat conference area, and a divan area. Typical layout is 12–14 seats, maximum capacity 16. A private suite and a shower are options.

The neighbours carry more: the G550 takes up to 19 passengers, the Global 6000 up to 17. For a party of twelve the difference does not show; for a delegation of sixteen with baggage it does.

Government and VIP configurations are a separate branch — France, Hungary and others. On the used market they behave differently.

Market: 289 aircraft against six hundred

7X production closed in 2023, with about 289 aircraft built by the start of 2020. The G550 ran eighteen years, over six hundred built, the last delivered in June 2021. The Global 6000 sits in between: over 315 delivered by March 2019.

Fleet size sets three things: how fast a shortlist comes together, how wide the buyer pool is at exit, and how deep type support runs. For the Global 6000, 12–14 aircraft hold in open listings at a median of $27.5M, to my information. A count of open 7X listings is not in my sources.

Inside the Dassault family

7X against 8X. The 8X is a stretched development of the 7X: 926 km more range, the same speed and the same trijet layout. Entry price diverges by nearly half again — a used 8X averaging $39.4M against an average $27M for the 7X, to my information. Twelve million dollars buys an extra thousand kilometres and a younger airframe.

7X against the Falcon 900. The Falcon 900 family works the large class on the same trijet layout: up to 14 passengers, and the current 900LX, built since 2010, ranges 8,800 km. Prices inside the family spread widely. The bottom of the used market is held by the Falcon 900EX: a $8.95–9.9M corridor, average near $8.8M, while a new 900LX runs about $44.7M, to my information.

Hence the conclusion for a buyer. A trijet below the average $27M of a 7X means a 900EX: a previous-generation airframe, TFE731-60 engines, a separate budget for heavy checks and for avionics upgrades. A fresh 900LX costs more than a used 7X and closes a different task — legs up to eight hours on a new aircraft under factory warranty.

What to check on a specific aircraft

Three separate engines. Hours, time remaining to removal and hourly programme status are counted unit by unit.

The control system. Service bulletins on the fly-by-wire system and software versions. This is a unit the Global 6000 and G550 do not have, and it raises more questions at inspection.

Airframe hours and cycles, separately. Government aircraft flew a different profile.

Calendar checks and avionics. Heavy checks on an ultra-long-range aircraft run into millions of dollars; avionics upgrades run into hundreds of thousands and weeks on the ground.

Cabin. Year of the last refurbishment. Interior work on an aircraft this size costs as much as a decent light jet.

Conclusion

The Falcon 7X solves a problem the Global 6000 and the G550 cannot: intercontinental range together with access to short city airfields, London City included. Plus three engines and thrust margin in an engine-out case. The 8X does the same, and its used average sits near $39.4M.

The owner pays in speed, in a third set of engine work in the budget, and in a small fleet: both the choice at purchase and the buyer pool at sale are narrower here.
