Dassault Falcon 2000: how this aircraft differs from its rivals
In the budget of a large business jet with a range of around 4,000 nautical miles, the Falcon 2000 sits alongside the Bombardier Challenger 650, the Embraer Legacy 650 and the super-midsize Gulfstream G280. The range of the first three converges to within a couple of hundred kilometres; they part company on cabin height, takeoff weight and ceiling. Here are the differences on confirmed figures, and the places where my database has nothing to offer.

Cabin: the cross-section from the trijet
The Falcon 2000 is built on the Falcon 900: the same fuselage cross-section, a shortened airframe. The family's section carried over whole.

At 1.88 m the Falcon has the best height of the three. Someone 175 cm tall walks the aisle upright. Five centimetres against the Challenger and six against the Legacy are felt on a four-hour leg.
Width goes to the Challenger 650: 2.41 m against 2.34 m. Those seven centimetres show up in a club four, in the distance between the seat and the aisle. The Legacy 650 gives way to both on section and takes it back on length: about 12.9 metres in three zones.
Cabin length for the Falcon 2000 and the Challenger 650 is missing from my database, and the table says so plainly. G280 cabin dimensions are missing too. Those figures are requested from the seller against the specification of the particular aircraft.
Two engines instead of three
The Falcon 900 carries three Honeywell TFE731s and gives around 8,800 km in the 900LX. The Falcon 2000 carries two PW308Cs and gives 7,408 km. The difference in range is about 1,400 km; the difference in the price of a new aircraft is $44.7 million against $38 million, to my information.
A third engine adds another set of work under the hourly cost programme, another interval to overhaul and another line in the first-year budget. Europe to the Middle East, Moscow to Western Europe and domestic Russian routes up to six hours are all within the Falcon 2000 without a stop, and the 900 series reserve goes unused there.
Takeoff weight: 19,414 kilograms
Airport charges are calculated from maximum takeoff weight. The Falcon 2000 rides that scale lighter than both rivals: 19,414 kg against 21,863 kg for the Challenger 650 and 24,300 kg for the Legacy 650.
The gap to the Legacy is 4,886 kg, close to five tonnes. At expensive European hubs on a regular network that is real money over a year. The G280 is lightest of all at 17,960 kg, with 741 km less range.
Runway and ceiling
The current 2000LXS combines 4,000 nautical miles with improved field performance: a landing distance of 689 metres. Required runway length at maximum takeoff weight is missing from my database for all four types. It is taken from the specific version and calculated for the field with its elevation and temperature.
On ceiling the Falcon goes up: 47,000 feet against 41,000 for the Challenger and the Legacy. The upper level gives a direct routing where aircraft at 41,000 are routed around weather, and less turbulence on a long leg.
Generations: what listings confuse
The type has been in production since 1995 and has split into eight versions. The pre-owned spread runs from $2.65 million to $30.5 million, to my information, and half of that spread is explained by the letters in the name.
Falcon 2000 — the original version, certified in 1994, CFE738 engines, range around 2,841 nautical miles.
Falcon 2000EX — 2003, re-engined with PW308Cs, range 3,878 nautical miles. The EX EASy variant is the same airframe with Honeywell Primus Epic avionics; the DX has reduced fuel and less range.
Falcon 2000LX — the EX EASy with winglets, range 4,000 nautical miles.
Falcon 2000LXS — the current production aircraft: 4,000 miles plus improved field performance. Beside it stands the short-field 2000S at 3,350 nautical miles.
Falcon 2000 Albatros — the maritime patrol version for the French Navy, seven aircraft ordered, deliveries from 2025.
Between the original aircraft and the LXS there is more than a thousand nautical miles of range and a whole generation of avionics. In a listing both are called "Falcon 2000". The type is verified from the records.
The market and the outlook for the type
By October 2022, 675 aircraft had been built. The Challenger 600 family passed 1,060 aircraft by October 2018, and the depth of supply there is wider.
In June 2025 final assembly was announced to move to India in partnership with Reliance, with the first Indian-assembled aircraft expected by 2028. Production continues, and that works in favour of service support and residual value.
Which aircraft suits whom
Falcon 2000 — regular legs up to six hours with a group of up to eight, weight-limited fields, work in the upper level. Plus a wide entry point: early aircraft start at $2.65 million, to my information. Challenger 650 — the same money when the widest cabin in the class is what you need. The family fleet is large, supply of the 650 specifically stays thin, and the right aircraft is waited for.
Legacy 650 — a group of 13–14 and three zones in the cabin. You pay for it in takeoff weight and charges.
G280 — routes up to five hours, where the Falcon's range goes unused.
The class is chosen from the route network and the number of people carried on a regular basis.
What to look at in a particular aircraft
Type and version from the records. An early Falcon 2000 offered under the LX name is an ordinary story on the pre-owned market.
Engines. Time remaining to the next removal on each. The status of the hourly cost programme, the date of the last payment, the terms of transfer to a new owner.
Avionics. Aircraft with a flight deck predating Primus Epic need upgrading to meet current communication and surveillance requirements.
Hours and cycles as separate figures. The airframe ages by cycles. The seller talks about how many hours the aircraft has flown.
Calendar checks and the cabin. Checks fall due by date whether the aircraft flew or stood. A separate line is the year of the last refurbishment: the interior of a large jet costs as much as a good light aircraft.
Conclusion
The Falcon 2000 takes cabin height, ceiling, takeoff weight and a wide entry point on budget. The Challenger 650 answers with cabin width and a large family fleet. The Legacy 650 carries more people and pays for it in weight. The G280 covers short legs more cheaply on the ground.
Beyond that the particular aircraft decides: the version in the records, time remaining on the engines, the status of maintenance programmes, the avionics fit and the condition of the paperwork. Every position converts into money — into a discount off the price, or into the first-year budget.
