How much a Gulfstream G550 costs: 2026 prices

The G550 was built from 2003 to 2021, eighteen years of production and more than six hundred aircraft. This is the widest pre-owned market in the ultra-long-range class: several dozen aircraft are openly for sale at any one time. The spread of prices within the type runs to a factor of three.

The price corridor

Parameter Value
Early aircraft 2004–2008 approximately $12–17 million
Middle years 2009–2013 approximately $16–24 million
Late aircraft 2014–2021 approximately $25–35 million
Median for the type around $21 million
Class heavy, ultra-long-range
Passengers up to 19
Range 12 501 km
Speed 904 km/h
Confidence in the data high: transactions on the type are numerous, the sample is wide

The prices are market reference points from the open marketplaces as at August 2026, to my information. The value of a particular aircraft is calculated from its documents, its hours and its specification.

Full specifications are on the model page, and the technical analysis is in the article on G550 specifications.

What makes up a twenty-million spread

Year of build. Eighteen years of production mean that under one name the market holds aircraft of two generations by condition. A 2005 aircraft has already been through several heavy checks; a 2019 one is approaching its first.

Life remaining on the engines. The BR710 is the most expensive unit on board. The difference between an aircraft with a fresh engine and one facing removal runs to a third of the price of the aircraft itself.

CorporateCare. Active Rolls-Royce coverage transfers to the new owner and counts as an asset in the deal. On the G550 that is a noticeable part of the price: an aircraft without the programme goes at a discount, and joining retrospectively costs more than continuous participation.

Avionics. Aircraft built before 2008 need retrofitting for current communications and surveillance requirements. The work is measured in hundreds of thousands of dollars and weeks of downtime. On later aircraft the fit is already there.

The cabin. A refurbishment on an ultra-long-range aircraft costs as much as a good light jet. An aircraft with a fresh interior and one with a 2007 cabin diverge in price by that amount.

Operating history. Government and corporate aircraft have different patterns of use and different quality of record-keeping. Gaps in the logbooks, outstanding service bulletins, components without confirmed provenance — every item comes off the price.

The G550 against its neighbours in the class

Type Range Price reference
Gulfstream G550 12 501 km median around $21 million
Bombardier Global 6000 11 112 km comparable money
Dassault Falcon 7X 11 019 km lower pre-owned
Gulfstream G650 12 964 km noticeably higher
Bombardier Global 6500 12 223 km higher

The G550 and the Global 6000 are direct competitors on the pre-owned market. A shared engine family, close ownership budgets, overlapping price corridors. The G550 wins on range and needs slightly less runway. The Global 6000 is 25 centimetres wider in the cabin.

The choice between them is settled by the route network. On legs of up to nine hours the difference in range goes unused, and cabin width comes to the front. On regular twelve-hour flights the G550's margin covers routes the Global 6000 flies with a stop.

What upkeep covers

The figures depend on annual hours, the region of basing, the maintenance arrangement and the make-up of the crew. A market average misleads here: decisions get taken on it that diverge from the facts by tens of per cent.

Fixed costs run regardless of hours. Crew — two pilots and a cabin attendant, and on the ultra-long-range class often one and a half sets. Hangarage, insurance, calendar checks, continuing airworthiness management, aircraft management.

Variable costs are counted from hours. Fuel, about two tonnes an hour in cruise. Line maintenance, contributions to CorporateCare and to the APU programme, ground handling at the arrival airports.

Annual hours decide more than anything. At a hundred hours a year the fixed part lands on each hour as a hundredth; at four hundred, as a four-hundredth. One aircraft, and the hourly cost differs by a factor of four.

Airport charges. Rates are calculated from maximum take-off weight. On the G550 that is 41 tonnes, four less than the Global 6000, and at expensive European hubs the difference accumulates into a noticeable sum over a year.

Long legs add a line. On a twelve-hour flight the crew rests to the regulations at the destination, often overnight. Hotels, allowances and the aircraft's downtime are counted separately from the flying hour.

When the type makes sense in money terms

The G550 pays for itself on regular intercontinental legs with a group on board. Annual hours from 300, routes of 9–13 hours, rest overnight en route.

The wide pre-owned market produces two practical consequences. The choice runs to dozens of aircraft, and you can wait for the specification you want with an active programme. Liquidity at the exit is higher than on rare types: a buyer for a G550 always exists.

At up to a hundred hours a year and legs within four hours, an aircraft of this class carries air. The fixed part of the cost stays where it is and the capability of the airframe goes unused.

The order of work

  1. Set your budget inside the $12–35 million band: the difference here is year of build, engine life, CorporateCare status and the state of the avionics.
  2. Compare the G550 with the Global 6000 and the Falcon 7X against your actual route network over the past two years.
  3. Check the status of the engine and APU programmes on each candidate.
  4. Establish the avionics fit and the scope of retrofit for your airspace.
  5. Ask for the logbooks before any conversation about price.
  6. Calculate actual annual hours from the documents rather than from plans.
