Challenger 350 or Praetor 600: four super-midsize jets compared

In August 2026 the median asking price for a Bombardier Challenger 350 sits near $18.0M, an Embraer Praetor 600 near $24.0M, and a new Challenger 3500 starts around $22M, to my information. One class, and the entry price spreads by a third. Here is which of the four aircraft suits which task, and what the buyer gets for that difference.

Prices are market benchmarks for August 2026, to my information. What a particular aircraft is worth follows from its records, its configuration and how much it has flown.
Range: the shortest leg of the four
On paper the Challenger 350 closes the list. The Praetor 600 carries 1,515 km further, the G280 741 km, the Longitude 556 km.
Book range is calculated at a design payload with NBAA reserves. The working rule: a leg longer than 85 per cent of book range is planned with a fuel stop or with reduced payload. For the Challenger 350 that line falls near 5,000 km, for the G280 near 5,670 km, for the Longitude near 5,510 km, for the Praetor 600 near 6,320 km.
The gap shows on the Atlantic. The G280 was sold on a non-stop London — New York, and the Praetor 600 was the longest-legged super-midsize in the world when it appeared: London — New York, São Paulo — Miami, Dubai — London. The Challenger 350 has no such legs in its book. On routes under five hours the neighbours' reserve stays unused and other parameters decide.
Speed and time in the air
The Longitude cruises at 895 km/h against 850 km/h for the Challenger 350 — about twenty minutes over a 5,000 km leg. The Praetor 600 at 863 km/h gains roughly five minutes over the same distance.
Twenty minutes change no decision on their own. On a regular schedule they add up: forty minutes a week is over thirty hours a year.
Cabin: the top of the class
Height of 1.85 m against 1.83 m for the Longitude and the Praetor 600; width of 2.19 m against 2.08 m and 1.96 m. A couple of centimetres look trivial on paper and work for anyone above average height.
The neighbours have their own strengths. The Longitude cabin is 7.67 m long with cabin pressure equivalent to 1,800 m. The Praetor 600 runs a flat floor and 5,800 ft cabin altitude at cruise, with layouts from eight to twelve seats. The G280 takes the length: 43 cm more than its G200 predecessor, with an optional berth and in-flight baggage access.
Part of the payload gain over the previous generation is eaten by heavy finishes — stone and marble in the galley and lavatory are options and they weigh. The actual figure is read off the specific aircraft.
Entry price and market depth
Here the Challenger 350 wins twice.
Price. Asking range $15.95–18.45M with a median near $18.0M; the market average in July 2026 was $16,995,000 across 26 positions. Aircraft Bluebook puts 2018–2022 aircraft at $17.5–19.5M. At the same moment the Praetor 600 medians at $24.0M and a new Longitude runs near $30M.
Liquidity. Average days on market for the Challenger 350 is 72. Among large types with statistics known to me that is short: the G650 runs 112 days, the Challenger 300 165, the Global 7500 189. Nine to ten aircraft sit on Controller and AvBuyer, five on GlobalAir, up to 26 across the market. A shortlist comes together in a couple of weeks.
For comparison: 12 Praetor 600 are listed, 7–8 per cent of the fleet. The Challenger 3500 shows 0–1 public listings plus one off-market — a thin market where the transaction price is hard to predict. The Challenger 300 shows 18 listings at 165 days on market: exiting that asset takes 2.3 times longer than exiting its successor.
Where the Challenger 350 gives ground
Range. The shortest leg of the four — fifteen hundred kilometres behind the Praetor 600.
A berth. Of these four only the G280 offers one, and only as an option. A regular overnight leg means the task belongs to the heavy class.
Production closed in 2022. The Challenger 3500 took its place, with a new cabin and autothrottle. For a buyer that is close to neutral: the fleet is large, service is established, supply is adequate.
Configuration spread. Stone and wood finishes, entertainment systems and satellite communications were options. Two aircraft of the same model year diverge in price on cabin alone.
Choosing by task
| What matters | What to look at |
|---|---|
| Maximum range in class | Praetor 600 |
| Non-stop London — New York | G280 or Praetor 600 |
| Twelve seats | Longitude or Praetor 600 |
| Cabin height and width | Challenger 350 |
| Entry price with a wide choice | Challenger 350 |
| A fast exit from the asset | Challenger 350 |
| A new aircraft under factory warranty | Challenger 3500, Longitude, Praetor 600, G280 |
| Minimum budget to enter the class | Challenger 300 |
What to check on a specific aircraft
The type in the records. A Challenger 300 offered as a 350 is an ordinary story on the used market. The designation is read in the logbooks; the word Challenger in a listing says nothing.
Engines. Hours on each HTF7350 and time remaining to removal. Hourly cost programme status transfers to the new owner and counts as an asset in the deal; joining retroactively costs more than continuous participation.
Actual payload. Taken from the flight manual of that particular aircraft.
Cabin. Year of the last refurbishment and the option list. This is what explains price spread inside one model year.
Records. Gaps in the logbooks, outstanding service bulletins, components without confirmed provenance. Each item becomes either a discount or a first-year budget line.
Conclusion
The Challenger 350 holds its place on balance: a top-of-class cabin, a large fleet, 72 days on market — short for a large type — and an entry price clearly below its neighbours. Its range is the most modest of the four, and on transatlantic legs that decides.
The Praetor 600 takes range and charges six million dollars for it. The Longitude takes speed and twelve seats. The G280 takes range at a comparable used price.
After that the individual aircraft decides: engine time remaining, programme status, actual payload, the state of the records.
